The Steam-Powered City
A common occurrence in or near mountainous regions, Harpies make their nests on high-up cliff sides, or inside of caves, only leaving the comfort of their homes to swoop down on civilians unaware of what's happening, stealing their food and, surprisingly often, babies or infants. Just the sight of their hooked faces, their grey and red skin tightly stretched over an almost bare humanoid skeleton, and their disgusting webbed fingers topped with stubby claws is enough to send the average person running in fear, though seasoned adventurers can usually handle it. Harpies are known to steal the dreams of sleeping townsfolk at night, encasing them in rough crystal balls, though the reason for this odd activity is unknown. The crystals themselves are somewhat valuable, and if you happen upon the nest of a harpy, you will usually find one nestled amongst several other valuable items such as necklaces, gold purses or other such things. Harpy feathers are sometimes used in clothing or pillows, especially high up in the mountains where other animals are scarce in supply.
